Trio team up for new album on Domino; hear a track from it below

Domino will soon release a new album from the collaborative trio of James Yorkston, Suhail Yusuf Khan and Jon Thorne, and above you can check out the first taste of that album, ‘Little Black Butter’.

The track, a cover of Ivor Cutler’s ‘Little Black Buzzer’, sees the trio bringing each of their various distinctive talents to proceedings alongside vocals from young Irish singer Lisa O’Neill. Yorkston is recognised as a greatly influential figure on the Scottish folk scene while Khan is an award-winning sarangi player and classical singer from New Delhi. Jon Thorne is best known as jazz double bass player with Lamb.

“Playing together as Yorkston / Thorne / Khan, we tackle a wide array of different sounds and songs,” says James Yorkston. “Alongside pieces of our own, there’s a fair chunk of improvisation, plus covers of Ivor Cutler’s ‘Little Black Buzzer’ and Lal Waterson’s ‘Song For Thirza’. Jon’s jazz background definitely comes to the fore, as does Suhail’s devotional singing and outstanding sarangi playing. I just do my best to keep up…” The album, entitled Everything Sacred is out on January 15.
