EDM Hashtag 'Banned By Instagram'

Use of "#EDM" banned from Instagram due to frequent nature of accompanying images

Since its rise in the late 00s, EDM has become electronic music’s most distrusted and divisive sub-genres, and as of today it has received perhaps its biggest commercial sucker punch yet. Worldwide photo sharing site Instagram have banned the use of '#EDM' in posts due to the nature of photos being uploaded accompanied by it, which have a tendency to depict festival revellers completely naked.

This is not the first time they’ve banned a hashtag for the excessive amount of nudity uploaded attached to it; “#curvy” was removed earlier this month for the same reason, though now has been re-added but with more tightly moderated search results.

Speaking to TIME magazine, site spokesperson Gabe Madway said that they will “block certain hashtags when they are consistently being used to share images and videos that violate our community guidelines. In this case, #EDM was being used to share content that violates our guidelines around nudity”.
