NEXT WEEK: Stara Rzeka UK Tour
The Quietus , March 25th, 2015 18:05

Kuba Ziołek brings his excellent one-man band to these shores for a five-date run, taking in Brighton, London, Salford, Liverpool and Bristol

Kuba Ziołek's musical gifts are frankly a bit of an embarrassment of riches. As if it wasn't enough that he's in improvisation collective Innercity Ensemble and experimental duo Kapital, the latter being a favourite on the Quietus Hour radio show recently, alongside performing with Alameda Trio, Ed Wood, Hokei and T'ien Lai, he also makes expansive, frequently beautiful music that runs the gamut from folk to black metal under the name Stara Rzeka. His 2013 album Cień chmury nad ukrytym polem was one of our favourites of that year, and he talked to us about it in an interview a few months after its release, telling Joseph Burnett: "It's focused on the concept that mankind should consider the loss of the connection with its humanistic tradition of Renaissance and Enlightenment as a gain, not a loss… and that objective reality (not only nature) is not something that mankind is supposed to conquer and defeat. It's connected to us but keeps its own autonomy." Read the rest of the interview here.

Now, he's coming to the UK for five dates next week on a tour that we're helping put on, and we couldn't urge your attendance more highly. The dates (click on the venues for tickets) are: The Prince Albert, Brighton on March 31; Cafe OTO, London, April 1; Islington Mill, Salford, April 2; Kazimier Garden, Liverpool, April 3, and Church of St. Thomas's in Bristol, April 4. And, once you've bought your tickets, listen to Cień chmury nad ukrytym polem in full below:
