The Quietus Hour: Episode One Of A New Radio Show
Luke Turner , March 1st, 2015 09:26

Our new radio programme begins! Listen here

The Quietus has now been in operation for almost seven long, arduous years. In that time, we've provided the occasional radio programme, intermittent transmissions much like those from a Cold War submarine emerging from under the Polar Ice Cap for a game of rounders, a drying of crusted undergarments, and a recalibration of the apocalypse beamed home alongside greetings to grandma. From now on, though, we're hoping to introduce a new series of programmes that audibly cover the music that we as a digital sheet like to write about and this, The Quietus Hour, is the first.

The Quietus Hour: 27-02-15 by The Quietus on Mixcloud

In this (hopefully) weekly show, Quietus editors John Doran and Luke Turner will transmit from our HQ on the top of an ancient hill in North London the music that we've been particularly enjoying over the past weeks, and discussing it and other matters pertaining to the day. In our first programme, which you can listen to via the Mixcloud embed above, you can hear new material from the mysterious Moonlandingz (NOT YOU FOIL HAT BRIGADE), the great East India Youth, Lone Taxidermist, Bassekou Kouyate and Ngnoni Ba, Hey Colossus, Ata Kak, Lotus Thief (damn those lotus thieves), Jlin and Matthew E White.

There's also Carter Tutti re-interpreting the music of Chris & Cosey, John's tale of risking life and limb to bring his L Pierre record to the office by bike, and Luke's ongoing crusade against supermarket polymer profligacy. Thanks to our producer Giles Anderton, Zara Wladawsky for technical advice, and to you for listening.

Episode two should be up very soon, and there'll be specialist episodes to follow. Ah yes, and this programme promises, if you listen to the end, to banish all your nihilism.
