Seventh album Pe'ahi surprise-released today; stream acoustic version of Killer In The Streets below

The Raveonettes have just released a brand new album, Pe'ahi. Named after a big-wave surfing spot on the Hawaii island of Maui, it's their first since 2012's Observator. It was recorded earlier this year and is out on Beat Dies. It follows hints from the band, comprising Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo, that a new release was on the cards, with album track 'Sisters' posted online earlier this month (listen and download it here in exchange for an e-mail address). We've been given a first play of an acoustic version of another song from Pe'ahi, 'Killer In The Streets', which you can hear and download above, and there's opener 'Endless Sleeper' at the foot of the piece.

Notes from the album's producer, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, accompanying the announcement, detail that it was recorded in Wagner's Los Angeles apartment and follows the death of his father last year. Meldal-Johnsen writes: "With Pe'ahi, I'd venture to say that the chances taken and areas explored probably go further than any other Raves record. Their particular and wonderfully stylised amalgam of melody and noise, while obviously in existence throughout the band's work, is now just that much more hair-raising."

The band will be playing a run of shows in the US starting in September - head to their Facebook for full details.
