Cosmic & E Beat: CANCELLED TONIGHT!
Laurie Tuffrey , January 11th, 2014 08:29

Cancelled due to galloping stupidity from the kind of people who dial '99' when their house is on fire

STOP PRESS: TONIGHT'S SOCIAL IS CANCELLED

One thousand apologies. Tonight's Cosmic & E Beat has been cancelled due to circumstances completely out of our control. (Licensing issues have seen the pub closed for a week.)

If you know of anyone who is coming can you please text them and let them know it's off.

We will be back in February. Sorry.

STOP PRESS

It's the first edition of tQ editor John Doran's Cosmic & E Beat night this Saturday (January 11), taking place as usual at The King Charles One pub in King's Cross, London from 8 pm. John will be joined on DJing duties by Phil Hebblethwaite, the former Stool Pigeon editor and freelance journalist, who'll be spinning his prime selection of funk, soul and rap as previously enjoyed by none other than The Terminator himself.

If that wasn't enough, it will also be the first chance to hear three of the upcoming releases on Ample Play Records, the very fine label run by Cornershop's Tjinder Singh and Ben Ayres. As AP tell us, this includes: "Tokyo’s one man Yellow Magic Orchestra Matsuki Ayumu, the wondrous Sudden Death Of Stars from Rennes and Bed Rugs from Antwerp, described as the illegitimate children of Cobain and McCartney". The listening session is from 8.30-9.30 pm; further details are over at the Facebook page. In the meantime, prime yourself with this track from Ayumu's new LP Terraforming (Alternative), out on February 3:
