I was wondering if you would be interested in articles? I have written on/with Mats Gustafsson, Gilad Atzmon, Davey Payne, Evan Parker, Peter Brotzmann, The Blockheads and many others for AAJ, London Jazz and SER and wondered if you would be interested in pieces - I am more into avante garde and free form than straight ahead anything, especially free jazz. I have had 3 books published and written for several magazines but music is my let-down and relaxation and I enjoy writing about it,meeting the people and reviewing gigs. I currently have material on Davey Payne, Daniel Bennett and one or two other ideas which could be woven into profiles/interview pieces. I would not be prolific, just now and again but I do get good read counts - let me know if you are interested or want to check out some of my pieces.I like what I see so far on Quietus, which is why the approach.

Please can you stop contributing to anti-ginger prejudice. Not so much by your own words but by articles about Simply Red that have to mention the colour of Mick Hucknall's hair. Resulting in the odd comment saying 'Best white soul singer' (one of them so correct). And other comments saying that they wish he'd die / retire. All because they're jealous of the number and looks of women that he's slept with. People are not allowed to use jealousy to excuse what is a kind of native UK hair 'racism'.
I am a ginger haired male. You cannot do it. It is wrong like child abuse. It is literally child abuse in some cases if a child is ginger.

If you could provide me with any more information or advice on how to get my work out there (either on your site or elsewhere), I would be grateful.

The Quietus! Your site is tremendous! The Quietus is so serious about the music and more. I have been combing through your list of 2014 music releases and listening and buying some that I like most.
I host a music show in Laguna Beach CA. The radio station is KX935.com. The reception for the radio is only in Laguna Beach but the website is worldwide. My show is every Tuesday night at 9pm and I have a lot of podcasts on the website. My show is named Kevin's Beach and on the 30th of this month I am planning a show using only music that I found on your very eclectic list.
It's going to be a great show. And I will talk about The Quietus website throughout. Thank you and keep up the good work.

When I moved to Eastbourne, many said, "it's very quiet there, isn't it?". To which invariably, I said, "well, not that quiet, but I do know what you mean". However, at the bottom of my road, a new record shop opened up called THE VINYL SOLUTION and on Bank Holiday they announced that John Doran would be hosting an evening's entertainment (my words not their's). So it would seem that I have unwittingly settled into a cultural hotspot. Good, eh?
Keep up the good work, and who knows, might even see you around.
Best regards,
Hugh

Hey Quietus, I just found you looking at The Black Bananas junk. I think this may be the sight for me. Anyhow, I love your name and wrote a poem a couple years ago called Quietus. here it is:

Wrapped by most pitch hours of evening
Fall epiphanies resplendent
Named by uninitiates silence
Where the shadows find their voice.

This so-called void fairly teeming
Really a far cry from golden
Holds all faculties in suspense
Granting great works free of choice.

Emptied till all left has meaning
Somehow reason independent
Stripped bare lacking shred of pretense
Pure symphonic, zero noise.

Here plays knowing, not believing
Cool to which heat is beholden
Creativity's residence
Mindless art, effortless poise.

Thanks, hope someone liked it! I look forward to my weekly Quietus newsletter...k.

Just a review for your consideration

To truly get down with the sickness, you mustn’t prance through asbestos-ridden abandoned children’s hospitals to the frolicking chugga-chug pristine riffs of Disturbed. It seems that, to be truly down with the sickness, you must hole up in a rotting cabin with cabinets full of scotch-guard cans and a leaky roof that saturates your pillows with dew, eventually causing mononucleosis. The brothers Ween have created a suffocating soundscape that hammers its way to the truth of being legitimately sick, disturbed, and funny as hell. Listening to The Pod on good headphones is probably not what Ween had in mind. Better yet would be blaring the music in the red on a tape deck with blown speakers. I have done both, and unlike many anomalies of audio art, this album heralded two completely different experiences.

As you strap on that Jammy Pack to prepare for the journey, you must remember to keep your wits about you, but at the same time let go to the wills of prime, unquantized analogue fuckery that will envelop your every fiber if you play it LOUD. I am telling you that you will go from bewilderment to tears by the time Sorry Charlie hits its stride. However, we are getting ahead of ourselves. The second song on this album, Dr. Rock, is possibly the most raw display of childish anarchy ever committed to tape. Yes, the Butthole Surfers have had their explosions of uncontained id that make us question everything about chord structure or melody, but the sinister elements of their musical children can come off as contrived more often than not. Dr. Rock is unadulterated glee bent through a teenage prism, which, and this is the rarest of cases, can make biker gangs light bonfires just as well as make tween girls, that at least had semi-cool parents, fall in love with true rock ‘n roll.

Going back to the sickness for a minute, this album evokes that lethargic haze that the flu brings. Half of the vocals are octaved down, and sound similar to a man's voice when stuffed up from allergies. This is apparently partly due to the fact that Dean and Gene Ween both came down with mono while recording the album. However, you can also detect that the ubiquitous helicopters that I have heard that people hear when they recreationally use nitrous oxide are pat-pat-patting through Ween’s ear canals while they record. An additional side effect of Nitrous inhalation is the Darth Vader voice.

We must, before continuing, discuss the concept of Brown. It is a color, but it is also an aesthetic that years of listening to Ween will mutate from an ethereal concept into a full-blown definition. Primus somewhat coined the term with their Brown Album, but it was Ween who created an almost-genre out of it. Genre should be taken lightly by the way, as Ween cover every genre on our big blue planet short of Calypso. Brown is Can U Taste The Waste. Brown is She Fucks Me. Yes, Brown is all those things, but it is best summed up indubitably, in this writer's opinion, on the song Laura. Some may and will definitely argue with this, saying things like Don’t Sweat It you fuckhead. But I don’t give a damn. Laura is Brown immaculate. Coming late in this almost hour-and-twenty-minute epic, this song is contagion without cure, and your antibodies will soon submit and eventually welcome the disease. The great man sits on the chair and serenades you, snot dripping and three-day old sweat cocooning your body, and all you can do is attempt to keep your eyes on the carpet.

Sorry Charlie, if you are in the groove, will make you tear up. It’s not the content, which is about losing a friend that is essentially a loser in life. It is the simple melody that peaks through this mucous-covered trip like sun rays through holes in dead leaves. It is simple but heart wrenching. Doubly so, because you know that Charlie must have really fucked up for the brothers Ween to excommunicate him, as they are some of the kindest living people as evidenced in Mononucleosis. There for a brother when he’s on the couch wishing he was dead. Dude, brother Gene really doesn’t wish you was dead. OH duuuuuuuude. It fucking sucks.

I have been introduced to your website after reading Mr Diver's eloquent, knowledgeable and honest review of Radiohead's latest.

Having been a fan since the the age of 15 ('99) and seeing them in my home town of Melbourne at the conclusion of their '04/'05 tour, idolising them as my favourite band all the time, I have been dismayed to hear the 'universal acclaim' for this 'lush' album that is certainly in the 'same league' as their '97 and '00 releasees. Bullshit. In under an hour from download in the Australian AM I knew the cordial was not for me and that it was time to flee the jungle. It's over Radiohead.

A one note, creepy Yorke. A self absorbed younger Greenwood. An absent other three. I like PTA's films but I don't listen to their soundtracks in my car, on the train or at work. I listen to 50 or 60 Radiohead tracks spanning mostly '95 - '07.

Great review. Insightful. Evisceration. There is truth somewhere in the rock press.

It was nice reading Sean Kitching's review of Slapp Happy's performance at Cafe Oto, but I wish he had refrained from inserting his gratuitous anti-Donald Trump commentary. Based on US journalism, it's my feeling that our recent presidential election will never be over. I'm sorry the tendency to insult our president in overstated and hysterical ways seems to have infected your magazine also. If Mr. Kitching really needs to bash Trump in the context of a concert review, perhaps he can add a line or two about the enchantment of Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders' (the socialist with three houses) lack of moral courage in allowing his campaign contributors to be ripped off by the Democratic party establishment who scuttled his campaign.

I don't THINK I'm a robot. Spent most of my 69 years avoiding robotization. You mean I wasn't successful?

Hello, I was just wondering how you guys got the name "Quietus"? I was thinking it could maybe be because of the Evoken album called "Quietus", but I didn't think an "all genre" sort of website would base the entire name on a genre so alienating. Thanks
