Fans of Chicago house, rejoice (and, perhaps, put on a pot of coffee in celebration). On October 30, Strut Records are releasing Only 4 U - The Sound of Cajmere & Cajual Records 1992 -2012. As its title suggests, it's a well-needed retrospective of material from Cajmere (who later became known as Green Velvet) and Cajual Records, and gathers together some seminal material from one of house's more influential names. Produced by Cajmere, it’s a classic house track featuring a smooth monologue by a gentleman attempting to woo a young lady.

Cajmere, aka Curtis A. Jones, began making music as hobby with a “sixty-buck keyboard, a cheap four-track and a cheap drum machine". In 1992, he released his first DIY tracks, soon after starting his own label Cajual and becoming one of the big names on the Chicago house scene, releasing the seminal track ‘Percolator’. The latter in particular has been cited by subsequent ghetto house, juke and footwork producers as being among the tracks that laid down the blueprints for those later mutations of Chicago house, linking Cajmere's earlier work very directly to the newer sounds currently emanating from the city. So, altogether now: "It's time for the percolator..."
