Levon Vincent Mixes Fabric CD

New York house don to helm fabric.63

The latest addition to Fabric's mix CD series is due for release on April 23rd, and has been mixed by from New York underground house hero Levon Vincent.

It's set to be a notable addition to the series: over the last few years Vincent's music has developed into an increasingly singular, heavy, dubby and dark form of house, bolstered by semi-regular missives of his own tracks through his Novel Sound label. One, the twinkly, Kraftwerkian 'Pivotal Moments In Life', featured in our favourite dancefloor tracks of last year.

fabric.63's tracklist features a raft of Vincent's own productions - some, like 2009 anti-anthem 'Double Jointed Sex Freak', already released, others brand new - alongside music from other members of the New York crew he's part of: Underground Quality's DJ Jus-Ed, DJ Qu, Fred P/Black Jazz Consortium and Anthony Parasole.

"Well, it wasn't like "oh let me hook up my friends," it was really like, "what else am I gonna do?," he said to Resident Advisor of the decision to use only music from his friends. "We all might be reaching farther and getting more success, but there's a group of us that all have this particular style, this sound, so who else would I have gone to?"

"I didn't really showboat or anything so much as just showcase the music as well as I could. I think that gives it a better shelf life," he continued. "... Basically I wanted to use this opportunity to push my signature sound."

fabric.63's tracklist runs as follows:

Joey Anderson - 'Earth Calls'
DJ Jus-Ed - 'Blaze (Do Dah Dab Mix)'
JM De Frias - 'Intrinsic Motivation'
Levon Vincent - 'Stereo Systems'
