Madonna Has Pop At M.I.A

"Teenager irrelevant," sniffs Madge. Pot, kettle, black.

Speaking on KIIS FM this morning, Madonna hit out at M.I.A for making an 'obscene gesture' during her performance at last weekend's Super Bowl.

As we previously reported, MIA was onstage with Madge and Nicki Minaj for a run through of new Madonna track 'Gimme All Your Luvin' when, apparently fed up with being upstaged by her co-performers, she livened things up by sticking her middle finger up at the camera. Audiences were, by all accounts, duly horrified, with talk of MIA herself having to stump up the cash if the broadcaster NBC was fined for the gesture.

Of course, MIA's stunt was roundly successful, almost entirely diverting attention away from Madonna's new single and onto herself (conveniently enough, right around the same time the latest video of /\/\ /\ Y /\ pratting around in the desert was unleashed upon the world).

Never to be outdone, Madge had words to say about the incident to KIIS' Ryan Seacrest this morning, saying "I wasn't happy about it. I know it's kind of punk rock and everything, but to me there was just such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity, and it just seemed negative".

"It's kind of a teenager irrelevant thing to do," she added, with apparent lack of self-reflection or irony. "There was such a feeling of love and unity so what was the point?"

Madonna's new album, the admittedly brilliantly titled MDNA, is due for release on March 26th.
