Quietus Mix 56: A Place To Bury Strangers Peddle Filth

Excellent New Yorkers continue The Quietus Mix Series

And so for their addition for the Quietus Mix Series, A Place To Bury Strangers have prepared a mix of Scandinavian folk artists in knitwear playing ukeleles and singing about the time their kitten woke them up with its ikkle wikkle wet nose... Of course they bloody haven't: the New York purveyors of brutally intense rock & roll put together an hour of proper motorcycling muck. Celebrating their new single 'So Far Away' (watch the video here), their first for the Dead Oceans label, A Place To Bury Strangers continue to sonically outdo any other group who take up the gauntlet put down by The Jesus & Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine et al simply by the intense physicality of their music. Listen and wait for your ears to weep.

It's a shame they haven't put the same grit and abrasive intensity in the new EP, which, in my opinion, is pretty disappointing and criminally polished. Sonically especially. Really? Can we have something new? Surprise us, guys. We know you can!

"singing about the time their kitten woke them up with its ikkle wikkle wet nose..."
Actually, they are the only band I know who threw a benefit concert for their cat...or was it their dog? I don't remember. I saw them twice that night and couldn't hear properly for a week.
