In Psychic Defense available now

Clay Ruby has released a new record as Burial Hex, In Psychic Defence. The twenty minute long record consists of a single long track, which shifts between several different phases, and is available now through Bandcamp. You can buy it either digitally or on limited edition 12" vinyl, which is apparently due to be shipped sometime around next June (!)

Ruby's work as Burial Hex has in many ways been something of a forerunner to 2011's vogue for all things stern - his dark, noisy, post-punk-infused recordings aren't a million miles away from similar transmissions coming from the Blackest Ever Black label, The Haxan Cloak (both have released through the same label, Aurora Borealis) and Perc Trax.

In Psychic Defense is rather marvelous too, moving from the spidery guitars of the opening segment all the way to a denser, more rhythmic second half. You can stream the entire thing before you buy over at Bandcamp now.

"The record is elaborated as a protection spell in psychic self-defense," the accompanying text reads, "and the lyrics are from an old hymn to the Archangel Michael, always been seen as a leader and protector of the faithful. This one sided also confirms the collaboration between Clay Ruby and Troy Schafer, who wrote and performed all the bass and guitar parts."
