Quietus Mix 45: Paradise Bangkok Visit Europe
The Quietus , October 6th, 2011 14:02

"Bring dancing shoes and an open mind" they say

Last month The Quietus spent a sweaty and immensely enjoyable night at the Soundway label's East London warehouse party. Last time we'd been in the venue it was full of mad cracked out youth stood still and gurning - by contrast, the Soundway people brought The Joy from all the corners of the earth. Tip top among them, and putting the Quietus' own DJ skills to shame, were Soundway curators Chris Menist and Maft Sai. We enjoyed their mix so much that we asked them to compile one for the Quietus. Here's what they had to say, and you can listen to the mix below: "Our mix features tracks from Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Yemen, Nigeria, Jamaica and Senegal, and explores these unique sounds as well showcasing some of their commonality. There's a strange musical DNA that appears to link some of this music, whether it's from South East Asia or the Arab Peninsula, seemingly linked to migration, shared histories and long forgotten trade routes. We hope you enjoy."
