Rock & roll's tallest drummer Jim Sclavunos serves up the hot rock

The efforts of affable and witty Greek-American polymath Mr Jim Sclavunos in contributing to the Quietus are greatly appreciated in our soon to vanish North London HQ. You're already familiar with his talents behind the kit on both Grinderman and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, but might not know that he's a fine writer who penned us this brilliant piece on Suicide, and gave us an excellent contribution to our feature where artists chose their favourite Miles Davis LP. Davis is also one of the artists featured on Jim Sclavunos' mix for the Quietus which, as that Moanin' At Midnight title suggests, is a collection of songs for the whiskey hours. It features not only the likes of Howlin' Wolf, Parliament, Brian Eno, Frank Zappa, Curtis Mayfield and Captain Beefheart, but some of the groups that Sclavunos has worked with as producer, including Beth Orton, The Horrors and Jim Jones Revue. Check out the mix on Mixcloud below, and take note that right now Grinderman have new single 'Palaces of Montezuma' out now, and it features reworkings by Faris Badwan and Rachel Zeffira's new project Cat's Eyes. Miaow.
