Belle Du Jour
Bunuel's masterpiece about a desperate housewife (Catherine Deneuve) who takes up a day job as a high class prostitute. In classic surrealist style, deviant sexual behaviour is embraced with humour and a complete lack of moralising (The moralising is of course reserved for the excesses and hypocrisy of the borgeoise lifestyle). While not as blatantly surreal as some of his other films, the film is full of chance occurences and unexplained phenomena. What the hell is in the Chinese man's box anyway?
